White to yellow white crystal or crystalline powder, odorless or with slight odor, slightly sweet. L-type is bitter; Sweetness of D-type is similar to that of cane sugar. PH value of 0.2% aqueous solution: 5.5~7.0, melting point: 295?(decomposed). It has weak resistance to acid and light. It is soluble in water(0.4%, 25?), diluted acid and alkali, slightly soluble in ethanol.
Use: Used as pharmaceutical intermediate, biochemical reagent.
